Wanderlust!

Stephanie’s website “Writer with Wanderlust” caught my attention immediately! “Wanderlust!” I love this word! I did a bit of research and from what I’ve gleaned, it comes from the German word “wandern” meaning “to hike or roam about,” and “lust” meaning delight and pleasure. How perfect this word is for our story’s characters, Lulu and Malek. They love to take great adventures, to meet and take care of others, and their world! 

I’ve always been a bit of a homebody, comforted by my immediate surroundings. One day after completing high school, I made a conscious decision to force myself out of my comfort zone, my bubble, and experience adventure! To tap into Stephanie’s awesome “Wanderlust” word, I had Wanderlust flowing through my blood and felt the need to tap into this!

I was nervous, but I was set on experiencing different cultures, and to meet diverse people. By chance, I discovered the yachting industry. This was my way of being able to see other parts of the world. I saved enough money as a server during college to travel to Australia to obtain my yachting certifications. I had never traveled alone, nor visited a foreign country so far away. Since that first adventure, I continued to travel across the UK, Caribbean and the Mediterranean, seeking a yachting position after arrival and basically living week to week as day jobs became available. After a year of hard work, I was able to obtain more of a full-time schedule. 

A few years ago, I was invited to be a cast member of Bravo’s Below Deck, Mediterranean (The ultimate Wanderlust for me!). Being on the show was a ton of fun, and for those who may have watched, I am best remembered with the saying, “JUNE, JUNE, HANNAH!” It was all in good fun, and just a quick note, I love Hannah! She is a good friend, and one of the loveliest ladies I know.
