Title: Grady Whill and the Templeton Codex | Author: Carole P. Roman | Genre: Middle Grade | Publisher: Chelshire, Inc. | Release Date: July 18, 2022
Book Description: (Publisher’s Summary) Templeton Academy, the superhero high school, is finally open! The prestigious academy is recruiting the best of the best to enroll in its student body. The school is as mysterious as it is exclusive. Grady Whill thinks there is nothing special about him to make the grade. However, his best friend, Aarush Patel has been selected and thinks Grady has the right stuff. Even school bully, Elwood Bledsoe is attending.
If Grady is fortunate enough to be picked, his guardian has forbidden him to attend. Will a family secret prevent Grady from becoming the superhero he was destined to be?
My Thoughts: Grady doesn’t think he’ll get into Templeton Academy, the innovative new high school that is hand-picking its students. Just as the hype about the new school comes to a pinnacle and Grady has given up all hope, he receives the prized silver envelope in the mail. Now, he just has to figure out why he’s going. Each student on the remote island campus has something that made them standout. But all Grady has in an inhaler and a strange ring from his uncle that heats up in certain situations.
Once at Templeton, Grady and his best friend, Aarush, realise that the codex is a puzzle that they will spend the next four years figuring out…along with learning how to levitate and avoiding the bully, Elwood. Grady struggles to figure out what they could possible see in him as he runs into trouble with teachers and students alike. Plus, something is going on within the teaching staff — Templeton’s own founding family disagrees about something, but no one is willing to talk about it. As the tension rise, friendships are tested and it’s going to take everything he has just to survive this high school academy.
With a huge, diverse cast of characters, high school antics and teen drama, Grady Whill and the Templeton Codex lays the foundation for an action-packed adventure series. Fantasy readers will enjoy the unique setting — a world where students witness walls that turn into water and teachers that can float — and the complex mystery slowly unfolding with Grady right in the middle of it.
