My Thoughts: What happens to a Christmas tree after Christmas? Or in the case of an artificial tree, after many Christmases? When Bruce is replaced by a “sprucier” new version, he finds himself all alone. What is Bruce supposed to do now?
This sweet picture book is filled with warm Christmas traditions, reminders of what makes the holiday so special and a journey of self-discovery. Through a variety of situations, Bruce sees how he plays a special part of Christmas, but is perhaps not the star of the show as he once thought of himself. And that’s just find with Bruce when he realizes what Christmas is all about.
In fun, rhyming text, Bruce the Spruce will bring a smile and maybe even a tear to readers across all ages. The story is a lovely reminder of what Christmas means written from a wholly-unique perspective. The setting — New York City — even includes a cameo by the most famous Christmas tree of all, adding a cheerful buzz that can only come from this iconic city. This is one gift that everyone would appreciate finding under the tree.
