Creating the Stories

The Adventures of Molly & Ollie is a children book series. The first book, Moving Day, (A Mom’s Choice Award Winner) was released March 2, 2021, published by Mascot Books.

The series is about Molly, an eight-year-old girl finding her way in the world. She meets Ollie, a magical owl, who helps her figure things out while having fun adventures. Molly and Ollie work as a team. They are the yin & yang to each other. The first book was about Molly moving to her new town and meeting Ollie, who helped her get settled in. For me as a writer, it was also about figuring out their personalities. Now, when an idea is sparked, it is easier to know what Molly will say, or what Ollie will do.

I guess Molly & Ollie are a part of me now!

The second book is about playing outside. On a chilly Saturday morning, I was walking my dog around the neighborhood park where the kids go to play. The idea for another book came to me in an instant and I started working through their interactions in my head. By the time I got home, I was ready to write. I sat on my front porch and started writing, and by lunchtime, the first draft of the second book was written. As of this writing, I have 3 other books on in varies stages of completion.

I am also writing a few mini stories to help everyone (including me!) stay in touch with Molly & Ollie. These will be posted on my website for the kids to enjoy. The first story came to me while hiking in the woods in the mountains on a cool spring day with my daughter. We had (accidently!) gotten off the path and found a beautiful purple flower just starting to come out of the ground. On our way back, I couldn’t stop thinking about Molly & Ollie taking this hike and discovering spring! When I got home, the story was written in an hour. I guess Molly & Ollie are a part of me now!
