My Thoughts: In this creative undersea adventure, Flossy, the most fearsome shark in the sea has a fear of her own that many children can relate to — going to the dentist. But since the dentist is Flossy’s favourite meal, it creates a double dose of nerves and laughs!

With loads of wordplay and wonderfully fishy language, this is a fun book to read aloud with children. The illustrations of the ocean and the story’s quirky characters are a joy to peruse and add so much fun to the text.

The message in The Dolphin Dentist is multi-layered showing fear can come from many angles and be overcome in many ways. Overall, the story is a lovely tool to address fears about going to the dentist or, more generally, how to cope with fear. This would be a great addition to a classroom or home library. (P.S. Don’t forget to brush!)

Cheryl DaVeiga is an award-winning children’s book author and singer/songwriter residing in New Jersey.
