My Thoughts: All of her friends have a tablet so Alicia is thrilled when she finally gets one for her birthday. But what is so cool about a tablet? And what do you do with it? Alicia will find out with lots of advice from her friends and her parents’ helping hands.
As a mother of a 9yo, I can attest to the fact that it’s difficult to find any child who isn’t obsessed with devices. Love them or hate them, they are a part of life, especially in the latest generation of tech savvy kids. Alicia Connected explores the excitement, confusion and potential pitfalls of tablets. The book blends how-to examples, proper usage warnings and modern tech definitions with a narrative about a girl who is brand new to the world of devices. Spanning school and home settings, devices are shown as helpful in certain situations, confusing in others and downright problems at their worst. Parents play a huge role in the book, monitoring and reminding the children what is right and wrong, while the child characters show restraint for the most part in their usage of technology. The overall viewpoint of the story illustrates that devices aren’t all good or all bad, but that used correctly, they can be helpful and fun.
