My Thoughts: In this fun-to-read new series from the imaginative mind of Lou Treleaven, young readers follow the story of good kid Otis Vile who is caught in the web of his grandmother’s wicked organisation. E.V.I.L. Otis tries his best to be bad, only to find that being true to himself is the best feeling of all. Along the way he learns about his long lost father, leading to hilarious situations and sweet vindication.

But there are always two sides to every story and (finally) readers get to find out what happened on the other side by flipping the book over to discover a whole new story as all of the characters eventually arrive together in the middle of the book.

When Otis meets Plib, he thinks he may have just found a friend for the very first time. But how can he be sure, especially since Plib works for his grandmother! All is not what it seems, but clever readers will decode the clues and celebrate the surprising, satisfying ending!

With intriguing cover art and delightful line drawings throughout, this highly-enjoyable first instalment of the Tangled Tales series is just the kind of uniquely entertaining junior fiction that we’ve come to expect from Maverick Publishing. About the Author: Lou Treleaven started writing just as soon as she could dictate words to her mum, and was soon writing her own stories, plays and poems, all of which she still has filling up a big cupboard.  After being forced to grow up, writing many more books and filling up another cupboard or two, her first picture book was published in 2016.  Her second picture book, The Snowflake Mistake, was read on CBeebies Bedtime by Suranne Jones, and she is now the author of over 20 published children’s books.  Lou also has plays published with Lazy Bee Scripts, has written for Writing Magazine and is the author of the Social Media for Writers chapter in the Handbook of Creative Writing (2nd ed).  She lives in a village in Bedfordshire with her husband and grown up children and likes reading, art, gaming and her cat Badger. About the Illustrator: Mario is a digital artist from São Paulo, Brazil. He was born in 1994 and grew up drawing, watching animated TV series from Cartoon Network, and playing video games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and Sonic The Hedgehog. These animations and games inspired him to start drawing in cartoon style. He has worked as a freelance illustrator since 2020 and has experience working in the animation, editorial, advertising, and especially in the publishing market. He had the opportunity to work with HarperCollins, Pearson Education, Capstone Publishing, Hachette, and Rick and Morty as a background artist in the sixth season of the series.
