My Thoughts: If you loved the TV sitcom The Office, you’ll chuckle all the way through Animals at the Office. In this clever story tackling first day of school jitters or new to daycare concerns, young readers follow the story of an alligator finding his place among the animals.

When Gator, the alligator, arrives for his first day at work, he meets a wonderfully diverse cast of office workers (that anyone who has spent time in a typical workplace will recognize). But Gator feels that he doesn’t fit in with the others. How can Gator stand out if he’s only trying to fit in?

So many sweet messages are seamlessly weaved throughout this book with a huge dose of humor. From self-acceptance to appreciating differences, children get a glimpse of an array of personalities and a hint about the broad “work” world around them. While new situations may not feel familiar, Animals at the Office shows young readers that being yourself and being part of a larger group can create something wonderful.

The illustrations are colorful and fun with wonderfully quirky details. This is a humorous, relatable picture book that works on many levels and will bring a smile to both children and the adults reading to them.
