Title: Bloom | Author: Julia Seal | Illustrator: Julia Seal | Genre: Picture Book (Fiction) | Publisher: Sunbird Books | Release date: March 8, 2022
Book Description: Once, the ocean was full of friends. Then a little jellyfish notices that things are changing–friends are disappearing! She sets out to discover the truth and learns that everyone has a part to play in protecting the careful balance of the ocean.
“Bloom” refers to a substantial increase in jellyfish population that can be caused by climate change and pollution. In this beautifully illustrated, timely, and topical tale, the jellyfish band together to deliver an important message.
My Thoughts: Finally, jellyfish get the spotlight in this thoughtful story about the importance of this fascinating sea creature and the part it plays in the Earth’s oceans. Luna loves her underwater home. But when things start changing for the worse, Luna wonders how she can help. It will take a bloom of jellyfish to bring attention to the problem in this clever, timely story that addresses climate change in a wholly-unique way. With mesmerizing illustrations and an adorable protagonist, this book brings the mysterious world below the surface of the sea to vibrant life. A pure joy to read.

About the Author & Illustrator: Julia Seal knew from the age of five what she wanted to do for a living—draw pictures! After graduating with a degree in Graphic Design and Illustration and then working in the greeting card industry (and getting covered in glitter every day!) she finally moved onto her dream job, illustrating children’s books. She found that each of her pictures had a story behind it so she started writing them down.
